Update on Surgery 1 of 2

Hey everyone!

I wanted to let you all know about my recovery since my back surgery I had last Monday. First of all thank you so much for all your thoughts, lifted prayers, food, flowers, love and support through this whole process. I had the surgery on Monday (March 22nd) afternoon and that night I was pretty loopy and saying some funny things but I felt good and rested well that night. I guess right when I woke up out of surgery, I asked Dr. Sakhil how it went and if everything went ok and he said, yes everything went fine with a little extra help from your other friend from Bethlahem obviously meaning Jesus, cause Dr. Sakhil was born in Bethahem, Israel. So that was really a sweet reminder from God that this surgery was meant to happen :)

By Tuesday morning I got to walk for the first time, which was a bit wierd and I was really stiff but I was moving quite well. By Thursday I did 6 flights of stairs and the hospital Physio therapist was having me walk more so I could loosen up a bit. Dr. Sakhil checked in on me almost everyday and he was very happy with the progress I was making and that the incision looked great. He even came up and gave me the little piece of the disc that he took out. Don't worry I got pictures for you all :) I really enjoyed my time in the hospital as crazy as that sounds. I had more than 50 people (teammates, coaches, German teacher, Strength coach, friends from Luxembourg, friends from my church her in Germany, fans, and friends from Saarlouis) that came and showered me with love, chocolate, flowers and I felt so loved. My mom was there for 10-12 hours a day just meeting and talking with my friends. getting to know my teammates, and we really enjoyed our time reflecting on our travels and just relaxing a bit. My nurses (Krankenschwesters as you would say in Deutsch) were great. The funny thing was that none of them spoke english, so my German got so much better throughout the week! My teammates that came in to visit translated for me a bit but I really got a lot better!! My roommate was an 83 year old German women who I got along with great. We spoke German together and we bonded. By the end of the week she was asking me to comb her hair for her and I gave her a few back massages and she just kept saying "Wunderbar" which is Wonderful in English :) She was so cute, I love old people!!! My favorite nurse was Erna. She reminded me of the cute old lady in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. She was so helpful and at the end of the week she brought me a little angel key chain thing and thanked me for coming in her life, so I was really touched by that. So then Friday I was able to go home to my apartment and my mom and friend Elizabeth helped me pack up all my stuff.

So that was my week in a nutshell in the hospital. I attached some pictures from the week, my balcony off the back of my room, me chilling in my mom's shades cause it was so bright in my room, the little piece that Dr. Sakhil cut out of my back, Dr Sakhil and I (yes i know he looks like Danny Devito :)

Enjoy the pictures and thanks again for the prayers, love and support!! Frohe Ostern!!! Happy Easter!!!! May we all remember the reason for this holiday and the love that God gives to us daily :)
